Hanging out in the front yard

Trying to cultivate an early love of composting and playing in the garden, Emmett's dad takes Emmett out into the front yard to explore. Unfortunately, Emmett has some reservations about the prickly nature of a chemical-free lawn.

Upon discovering a leaf in the garden, however, he decides to give the yard a second chance.

(footnote: Emmett's dad is fairly sure of the random nature of Emmett's words at this age, while Emmett's mom is convinced that Emmett meant what he said)

Later that same day, Emmett dons his muscle shirt for his daily workout. Emmett uses crawling as weight-bearing exercise to tone his triceps, biceps, and thunder thighs (including the fast-twitch muscles particularly useful when making a dash for an unattended camera). With long summer days ahead at the playground and on the beach, he wants to make sure he's lookin' good for the ladies.

"He's only eight months old,...

...never kissed a girl."(Apologies to the Tragically Hip) But he really likes to check them out at the playground.

He had to play it cool though. They were, of course, older chicks. So he had his mom drag him over to the pirate map, to show off his, y'know, navigational skills.

Just another day at the playground for Emmett.

Growth spurt

Today marks Emmett's three month birthday. Based on his insatiable appetite, his parents figure he's going through a growth spurt. As a result, they are more sleep deprived than usual. So today, they're only capable of putting up a random assortment of photos to keep the Grandmas happy...

Winter is in full force in Calgary, with temperatures expected to drop to -28 this weekend. Bring on the snowsuit...

There are few pictures of Emmett's dad when he was a baby, so his parents can't compare baby photos. But it's pretty clear who Emmett looks like...

Emmett made some new friends this week at his Mommy and Baby class. He showed a clear affinity for the ladies -- this shot narrowly missed an attempt by Emmett to hold hands with the girls to his left and right. And of course, nothing is more appealing to a woman than a man wearing an outfit saturated with his own spit-up...
