Toys of a ten month old

Empty Cheerios boxes, blocks, board books and cans of club soda (they roll really well across a kitchen floor, perfect for chasing). Emmett is not particular when it comes to the toys he plays with, but these are a few of his favourites.

Emmett's mom fell prey to nostalgia when she found a childhood toy recently, the iconic chatterbox telephone by Fisher Price. Warm memories of talking to her imaginary friends and spinning the rotary dial came back to her. In a moment of weakness, she bought the toy for Emmett, even though Emmett would never use or see a rotary dial phone like this in his life.

After watching the googly eyes go wiggly for a few minutes, Emmett ditched the phone and headed after his favourite toy, an empty, vintage Gatorade container. The ultimate in low-tech.

So much for the chatterbox telephone.

A bad day for Sophie

Emmett, indignant at the teething process, takes out his frustration on Sophie the Giraffe.

(with regards to Gary Larson and his Far Side parody, "A Bad Day for Muffy." If anyone can help Emmett's dad find this cartoon, he'll post it)

Class of 2031

There's an old adage that says the cloth of the alma mater that touches a child's skin first shall too be that child's alma mater.

Naturally, Emmett's dad was thrilled when Emmett received a lovely University of Waterloo gift from dad's boss Alyson, a fellow Waterloo alum. Alyson said the shirt would be too big but Emmett proved that it was, in fact, too small. Emmett's mom thinks that the shirt is better off worn by a stuffed animal, and that Emmett will be better off studying at the University of Guelph.
