Why the name Oscar?
It's a common question his parents get, and really, they don't have much of an answer other than they liked the name. And it met several pieces of naming criteria...
1. You can't shorten it.
2. It is not a hugely popular name, so there won't be 15 other Oscars in his Kindergarten class.
3. It is unique, but not *too* unique. While researching names during the past nine months, Oscar's parents discovered options like "Thunderbolt", "Little", "Horizon" and "Brave". (No offense to anyone reading this who have chosen these names for their offspring.)
4. It's easy to spell, and his older brother doesn't have a problem saying it.
Upon further research, Oscar and his parents discovered there are quite a few famous people that he shares his name with. Perhaps he will follow in their footsteps...
Oscar Wilde, Irish playwright, poet and novelist. |
Oscar, the Academy Award |
Oscar Peterson, one of the greatest jazz artists of all time. |
Oscar Pistorius, South African sprint runner who is a double amputee. Oh, and accused of murdering his girlfriend. Let's hope our Oscar does not follow so closely in his footsteps. |
